Wassmann Cabernet Franc Villany Hungary 2020

Susann and Ralf Wassmann left Germany for Villány, Hungary's southernmost wine region, and built one of its most uncompromising small estates: in 2003 they became the first in Villány recognized as organic growers, and Demeter biodynamic certification followed in 2011. From two hectares around the village of Siklós, Cabernet Franc is their top wine, planted in 2007 in a cooler corner of the region at roughly 225 meters on deeper clay and limestone soils. The fruit is picked by hand, fermented spontaneously, and matured 20 months in Hungarian and French barriques, then bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without added sulfur. Villány has staked its modern reputation on Cabernet Franc, and this is the grape argued at full conviction: natural in method, classical in bearing.
