Roman soldiers once balked at crossing the Lima, which they called the river of forgetting, until their general seized a standard and led the way over. Rios Cósmicos draws this wine from one vineyard along the river in Arcos de Valdevez, in the Vinho Verde region that Loureiro calls home, where granite and gentle maritime weather give the wine its crispness and perfume. It is all Loureiro, picked by hand, fermented in stainless steel and rested on its lees. Citrus and white flowers come first and stone fruit fills in behind; the palate is medium-weight and completely dry, with a fresh, lively finish. Chill it and open it alongside grilled fish or a pot of clams.
