Tom and Sally Jordan founded Jordan in Alexander Valley in 1972 with France's great estates in mind. Rob Davis made the wine from the first 1976 vintage until 2019, when he handed the cellar to Maggie Kruse, his colleague for 13 harvests. She counts 2020 among the hardest of her career: with Glass Fire smoke heading for Alexander Valley, the crew picked the last of the Cabernet at record pace and held gondolas of fruit under dry ice behind sealed doors until tank space opened up. The blend is 83 percent Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Petit Verdot and a splash of Malbec, aged 13 months in French oak and rested nearly two years in bottle before release. Boysenberry, black cherry, currant and cedar lead, then clove, blueberry and cranberry over supple tannins. Decant it for an hour, then pour it alongside duck confit or beef bourguignon.
