Jocelyn Brent and Lisa Rankin found the winemaker for Friã Friõ the hard way: a blind tasting of fifty wines, with Portuguese winemaker Joana Santiago the clear winner. The white blends Loureiro, Trajadura, and Arinto from granite soils in Sousa, in southern Vinho Verde, where Atlantic influence runs strong. Grapes are picked by hand early in the morning, reach the winery within ten minutes, and ferment in temperature-controlled stainless steel. The 2025 is medium-dry at 9.5% alcohol, with pear, green apple, and citrus over a floral lift and a light spritz; a bright, zesty freshness balances the touch of sweetness, which is exactly what chili-heavy Mexican and Asian cooking wants. The name translates as "cool, cool," which doubles as the serving instruction.
