Clara comes from Finca La Encerrada, the Gualtallary vineyard in the Uco Valley that Bodega Benegas bought in 2010, where Chardonnay grows at some 1,400 meters on poor, mostly calcareous soils. Owner and winemaker Federico Benegas Lynch, a descendant of Trapiche's founder, worked harvests at Harlan Estate and trained at Michel Rolland's Le Bon Pasteur, and he bottles it in his Family line of young, fruit-driven wines, each named for one of his children. After maceration, pressing, and racking, it ferments with no wood at all and rests three months on its lees. Peach, pineapple, and white flowers lead into a refreshing attack, a delicate mid-palate, and a long, lively, balanced finish; ceviche, seafood, or steamed fish are natural matches. This one's name doubles as a tasting note: in Spanish, clara means clear and bright.
