Podere Il Balzo Addiaccio Toscana Rosso 2017

Podere Il Balzo is Paolo Ponticelli's small estate in Chianti Rufina, set above the Sieve river northeast of Florence beneath a medieval tower, with roughly seven hectares of organically managed vines and veteran enologist Franco Bernabei consulting in the cellar. Addiaccio, a Toscana IGT of Merlot and Sangiovese, was born of accident: a hailstorm battered an isolated parcel in 2015, and a careful salvage harvest finished in wood yielded a robust, artisanal red that has stayed in the range since. Small production and honest intent, from a grower who began bottling under his own label only in 2006.
