The espresso martini is not going anywhere, and this is a shrewd bottle to build it on. St. Elder, the artisanal liqueur label of M.S. Walker, the family-owned Boston spirits house founded in 1933, made its name on elderflower before turning to coffee: this expression is handcrafted in small batches in Massachusetts from natural espresso extracted from roasted Colombian Arabica beans. Deep brown in the glass, it opens on coffee and vanilla aromas; the lightly sweet palate leads with vanilla and a hint of cocoa before the full coffee flavor arrives on the exhale, threaded with baking spice. At 26.5 percent it has the spine to carry a cocktail without turning syrupy, and the half-bottle format keeps things fresh. Dessert in 375 milliliters.
