Ridge made its name with Monte Bello Cabernet and Zinfandel, but in 2018 it bottled its first Grenache Blanc, a small lot from the Adelaida vineyard on the west side of Paso Robles. The wine now draws on three sites: Adelaida and Halter Ranch, in the cooler climate and limestone soils of the Adelaida District, and nearby Fossil Creek. The 2024 blends 85 percent Grenache Blanc with 12 percent Picpoul and 3 percent Roussanne. John Olney, who joined Ridge in 1996 and became head winemaker in 2021, holds to the approach Ridge calls pre-industrial: sustainably farmed, hand-harvested grapes, whole-cluster pressed and fermented on native yeasts, with most of the wine in stainless steel and the rest largely in seasoned American oak, plus a sliver of amphora. Honeysuckle and citrus blossom open onto pear and apricot, with a mineral streak and a bright, zesty lift keeping the finish fresh. Ridge prints every ingredient and action on its labels, and this list is refreshingly short.
