Rene Rostaing Ampodium Cote Rotie 2017 1.5L

René Rostaing built one of Côte-Rôtie's defining estates on vines inherited from two legends of the appellation, his uncle Marius Gentaz and his father-in-law Albert Dervieux, and since 2015 his son Pierre has run the domaine in the same resolutely classical spirit. Ampodium is the ancient name for Ampuis, the village at the appellation's heart, and the label is the house's signature assemblage: Syrah from more than a dozen parcels across Côte-Rôtie, fermented largely whole-cluster with long, gentle macerations and raised with only a sparing fraction of new oak. The 2017 is pure and dark-fruited, a textbook note of violets over ripe, polished tannins, approachable young yet built to hold. Offered here in a 1.5 liter magnum, a fitting format for the address.
