Chartreuse Gentiane des Peres Chartreux Liqueur 700ml

A rare departure for the Carthusian monks: a liqueur built not on their secret 130-plant formula but on gentian, the tenaciously bitter alpine root, brightened with citrus. It comes from the same order that has guarded its herbal manuscripts since 1605, yet at 22.7 percent it is the gentlest bottling the monks produce, an aperitif where its green and yellow siblings are digestifs. Gentian root leads the nose, with citrus peel and mountain herbs behind; the palate sets clean, earthy bitterness against measured herbal sweetness; the finish is long, dry, and rooty. Over ice with soda or tonic it makes a formidable aperitivo hour, and it anchors a white Negroni with monastic authority. Suze drinkers, meet your match.
