Blasson d'Issan Margaux 2016

Blason d'Issan is the second wine of Château d'Issan, third growth of the 1855 classification in Margaux, created in 1995 to sharpen selection for the grand vin. It comes from the estate's youngest vines within the appellation, and the 2016 leans on Merlot, 60 percent against 40 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, raised fourteen to sixteen months in barrel with one third new oak. The intent is candid: the same terroir in a rounder, earlier-drinking register, with generous fruit that opens years before its elder sibling. Margaux pedigree, minus the patience and the price.
