Calumet Farm 10 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

The name comes from Calumet Farm, the Lexington thoroughbred operation founded in 1924 whose bloodlines produced eight Kentucky Derby winners and two Triple Crown champions, and the bourbon takes breeding seriously too. Each batch of this ten year old is drawn from just 19 barrels pulled from a single center-cut rack of the rickhouse, the position where temperature and humidity swings work the wood hardest. Distilled and aged in Bardstown from a mash of 74 percent corn, 18 percent rye, and 8 percent malted barley, it is bottled at 92 proof. A decade in oak shows immediately: vanilla, caramel, and butterscotch on the nose, a broad, textured palate of toasted honey and robust oak, and a long, lively finish. Like its namesakes, bred to stay strong through the stretch.
