Private class terms

Last updated October 2026

These terms apply to every private class booked with Pure Wine NYC LLC ("Pure Wine"), 86 East 10th Street, New York. When you book a class you accept them for yourself and for your guests.

  1. What your booking covers

Your booking pays for a private educational wine seminar for your group: the sommelier's time and instruction, the class materials, and, for a class held at the shop, the glassware and the use of our space. The wines poured during the class are tasting samples that we choose to teach the class.

  2. Who can attend

Every guest must be 21 or older and must bring a valid government-issued photo ID. We check ID. We cannot admit or serve anyone without it, and no refund is due for a guest who is turned away.

  3. Booking and confirmation

Classes are booked and paid for online, at least 48 hours before the start time. Our calendar shows the days and start times we can usually host, but it is not a live diary. We confirm your date and time by email within 24 hours. If we cannot host it, we will offer you another date or refund you in full, whichever you prefer. You can also pay for a class without choosing a date, or buy one as a gift; see Classes bought for later, and gifts.

  4. Group size

Private classes are for 4 to 14 guests, and you pay for the number of guests you book. You can add guests up to 48 hours before the class, at the same price per guest, if there is room. A group of 15 or more needs the whole shop. Please contact us directly and we will plan it with you.

  5. Moving or cancelling

Tell us at least 7 days before the class and we will move your date or refund you in full. Inside 7 days the class is non-refundable, because the wine and the sommelier's time are already set aside for you. You can still move the date once if you tell us at least 48 hours ahead, or send other guests in your place. A class booked less than 7 days before its date is non-refundable from the time it is booked. If we have to cancel, we will move the date or refund you in full.

  6. Classes bought for later, and gifts

You can pay for a class without choosing a date, or buy one as a gift for someone else. We save it under a code and email the code within 24 hours. The class never expires, and it can be passed on to anyone, but it is not refundable. Whoever holds the code picks the date on our website, with at least 48 hours of notice, and we confirm it by email within 24 hours. Once a date is set, the terms above for moving a class apply. A gift covers the class and the number of guests it was bought for, at the shop; more guests, extras, or a class at your home or office can be added when you book, and are paid for then. If a class is no longer offered, the amount paid counts toward any other class.

  7. On the day

Classes start at the booked time and run for about 60 minutes. They can be booked seven days a week, with start times from 1pm to 8pm. Classes at the shop are held during shop hours, so other customers may be in the shop. If your group is late we will start when you arrive, but the class still ends at the scheduled time.

  8. Tasting and responsible service

We pour tasting samples, and spittoons are on the table for anyone who wants them. We will not serve anyone who appears intoxicated, and we may end the class for a guest, or for the group, if we need to. Please plan a safe way home.

  9. Food

You are welcome to bring food to a class at the shop. Our wine and cheese pairing class includes the cheese. Tell us about any allergies or dietary needs when you book.

  10. Classes at your home or office

We hold these anywhere in the five boroughs of New York City for an added fee. For a class outside the five boroughs, contact us and we will plan it with you. The host provides a suitable room, a table, and seating for every guest, and an adult aged 21 or older must be there to receive us. We bring the wine and the sommelier. We do not bring glassware off-site, so the host provides a wine glass for each guest. If you need glassware, contact us before the class and we can arrange a rental through an outside company for an added fee.

  11. The host's responsibility

The person who books is the host. The host shares these terms with their guests and is responsible for making sure the guests follow them.

  12. Conduct

Please treat our team, our shop, and the other guests with respect. We may ask anyone who is disruptive, abusive, or who damages property to leave, without a refund. Please go easy on perfume and cologne, because strong scents get in the way of tasting.

  13. Photos

We sometimes take photos during classes for our website and social media. By booking a class, you give us your written consent, for yourself and your guests, to photograph the class and use those photos on our website and social media. If you or any of your guests would rather not appear, tell us when you book or at the start of the class and we will not post photos of that person.

  14. Risk and liability

Wine contains alcohol. By attending, you and your guests accept the risks that come with drinking it. To the extent the law allows, Pure Wine is not liable for illness, injury, loss, or damage that results from a guest's own consumption or conduct. The host agrees to cover claims and costs that arise from the conduct of their guests.

  15. Companies and larger groups

For company events and larger groups we may ask for a certificate of insurance before the class. We will tell you when you book if that applies.

  16. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York.
