Envinate 'Taganan' Blanco, Canary Islands, Spain 2023

From the rugged northern coast of Tenerife, 'Táganan' Blanco is a field blend of native white varieties—Listán Blanco, Albillo Criollo, Marmajuelo, Gual, Malvasía, and others, some still unidentified. The vines, many over a century old, grow untrained on steep volcanic slopes just above the Atlantic, farmed organically by Envínate and 15 local families. Fermented with native yeasts, with some parcels seeing skin contact, the wine is aged on lees in steel vats and neutral oak for about eight months. The result is a textured, mineral white with notes of wild herbs, stone fruit, and sea spray—a true reflection of its windswept, volcanic origin.
