Remo Falconieri designed typewriters for Olivetti before founding Cieck in 1985 near Agliè in the Canavese, the glacial hill country between Turin and Ivrea, and his pioneering Erbaluce sparklers earned him the nickname 'the Archimedes of bubbly' from Carlin Petrini. The estate farms 13 hectares today, nearly all of it Erbaluce, an ancient white grape native to the district, trained high on the traditional Canavese pergola. This still Erbaluce di Caluso comes from vines averaging five decades in age, rooted in loose, stony morainic soils at about 320 meters, fermented cold over three weeks and rested four months in steel. Hawthorn and fresh fruit ride crisp, youthful acidity and a stony mineral line to a clean finish. Alpine-foothill white with genuine nerve.
