No. 3 London Dry Gin

Berry Bros. & Rudd has sold wine and spirits from No. 3 St James's Street since 1698, and when London's oldest merchant put its own address on a gin, the recipe came out as classical as the shopfront. Distilled by De Kuyper in the Netherlands, No. 3 holds to six botanicals, juniper, coriander seed, angelica root, cardamom, grapefruit peel, and sweet orange peel, and bottles at a martini-minded 46 percent. Juniper leads the nose, bright, crisp, and unmistakably piney; the palate moves in order from that juniper core into grapefruit and orange brightness, then cardamom spice and the gingery warmth of coriander; angelica dries out the long, earthy finish. Built to anchor a proper martini or gin and tonic, and it does.
