The 2011 Paolo Scavino Barolo Riserva Novantesimo was made in tribute to both the 90th anniversary of the Scavino winery and the enduring legacy of Barolo itself. Crafted from a meticulous selection of fruit from seven of Scavino’s top crus—Cannubi, Monvigliero, Fiasco, Vignane, San Bernardo, Bricco Ambrogio, and Rocche dell’Annunziata—this wine reflects both the strength of its vineyard sources and the warmth of the 2011 vintage. A growing season marked by high temperatures and dry conditions resulted in a richly layered and open-hearted expression of Nebbiolo, shaped by careful aging in 350-liter tonneaux for one year, followed by two more years in large oak casks.

The nose reveals waves of dark cherry, sweet spices, cured tobacco, and leather, with hints of freshly cut flowers, mint, and tar adding complexity. On the palate, the wine is silky and expansive, with finely integrated tannins supporting flavors of cherry liqueur, licorice, and warm earth. Despite its concentration, the Novantesimo maintains a vibrant freshness which balances its opulent texture.

This is a Barolo of pedigree and distinction, seamlessly weaving together the personalities of its cru origins into a graceful and resonant whole. Profound and endlessly enjoyable, it is unequivocally one of the marvels of the 2011 vintage.
