From the Vigna Bacchilega vineyard in Imola, Emilia-Romagna, 'Vitalba' is a must-try orange wine. The Albana grapes are harvested from 40-year-old vines and undergo spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in 470-liter Georgian amphorae (kvevri), without temperature control. The wine macerates on its skins for 70 to 120 days (AKA a very long time!) depending on the vintage, and is aged for 10 months in the same amphorae. This extended skin contact imparts a deep golden hue and a complex bouquet of stone fruits, dried yellow fruit, and aromatic herbs. On the palate, it is warm and enveloping, with notable freshness and savoriness, culminating in a long finish.
