Monthelie-Douhairet-Porcheret Meursault 1er Cru Les Santenots 2020

Santenots straddles the line between Volnay and Meursault, and appellation law divides it by color: its Pinot Noir is sold as Volnay-Santenots, while the little Chardonnay planted here earns the title Meursault premier cru. Only a handful of growers farm white vines in the climat. Monthélie-Douhairet-Porcheret tends 0.3 hectares of them, old vines averaging eight decades, from a domaine founded more than three centuries ago in Monthélie and shaped by the late Armande Douhairet and André Porcheret, who long ran the cellars of the Hospices de Beaune; his granddaughter Cataldina Lippo directs the estate today. The 2020 offers pear, white pepper, and a trace of smoky gunflint, its old-vine depth carried on a savory, acid-driven spine rather than Meursault fat. A premier cru of real scarcity.
