Lamy-Pillot Les Castets Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Rouge 2020

Domaine Lamy-Pillot has been based in Chassagne-Montrachet since René and Thérèse founded the house in 1973, and it remains one of the few estates in the village that makes more red wine than white. The next generation began taking over in 1998 and now farms 12 hectares in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, working plowed, living soils and harvesting by hand into small crates before careful sorting. Les Castets is a Saint-Aubin premier cru parcel of just over a third of a hectare, facing southeast on light, white, well-drained calcareous marl, with Pinot Noir vines planted in 1972. The wine spends 12 to 18 months in barrel, with no more than a quarter new oak. The 2020 is concentrated and broad, with deep cherry fruit, complex aromatics, and supple, well-integrated tannins. Premier cru red Burgundy with real substance, and the structure to keep improving for years yet.
