From one of Chambolle-Musigny's quietly excellent family domaines, this Hautes Côtes de Nuits comes from a small half-hectare parcel in Concoeur, a commune perched above the village on clay-limestone soils. Michel Digioia, the third generation to run the estate, has been crafting wines here since 1999, and his approach is straightforward: hand-harvested, fully destemmed, fermented with indigenous yeasts, and aged 14 to 16 months in oak with a restrained touch of new wood. The vines, planted in the late 1960s, deliver a wine with real depth for the appellation. Dark cherry and earthy mushroom notes carry a velvety, mineral core that speaks more to its neighbors down the slope than to the typical Hautes Côtes profile. A serious Burgundy at a fraction of village-level prices.
