Chateau Genot-Boulanger Meursault Clos du Cromin 2017

Château Génot-Boulanger was founded in Meursault in 1974, when Charles-Henri Génot and his wife Marie Boulanger bought their first parcels; today Guillaume and Aude Lavollée run its 22 hectares across some thirty appellations, having moved the estate toward organic farming since 2008, with horse-drawn plowing in the smaller parcels and herbal treatments in place of chemistry. Clos du Cromin, the domaine's most visible wine for a quarter century, is a 1.42-hectare holding at the foot of the slope on Meursault's Volnay side, where clay-rich topsoil sits just 40 centimeters above the mother rock; the clos was historically planted to Pinot Noir. Pressed directly, fermented in barrel on indigenous yeasts without bâtonnage, then aged twelve months in wood and six in tank, it shows the full, open-knit fruit the clay gives, with the rock beneath keeping order. Classic village Meursault with a lieu-dit's sense of place.
