In the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail (Southern Rhône Valley) high up at 1800′, Domaine Saint Amant enjoys a unique combination of soil, exposure and climatic conditions; 32 acres of small terraces scattered around the mountain, on a Triassic limestone, marl and rocky soil, facing east and south, away from the diseases and the heat of the plain. Grape cultivation is done within respect of the very biodiverse environment : no herbicides, no pesticides.
A blend of 50% grenache, 30% syrah, 10% carignan and 10% viognier. Grangeneuve’s grapes are harvested at the top of the red AOC Beaumes de Venise, above the village of Suzette, high up at 1500′ on 10 acres of small, windy terraces. The soil is a mix of marl and limestone from the Trias era. 90 year old grenache, 50 year old carignan and syrah are blended together with white viognier right from the beginning of the fermentation. Wild yeasts will start the fermentation after a short maceration. Once racked and pressed off the grape skins, the wine ages for 12 months in 20 years-old french wooden tanks, undergoing spontaneous MLF during this time.
The wine is elegant and truly expressive of the domaine’s outstanding altitude terroir. Fresh and inviting in youth, the underlying structure will also reward cellaring.
