Markus Molitor Sparkling Riesling Brut NV

Markus Molitor took over his father's Mosel estate in the mid-1980s as the eighth generation of the family, aiming for Riesling in the spirit of the region's golden era: site-specific, age-worthy, and full of individual character. His vineyards run along the Middle Mosel from Brauneberg to Traben-Trarbach, with steep Saar slopes added in 2001, and this Sekt draws on Riesling from a range of his Mosel slate sites. The base wine ferments in large wooden casks before a second fermentation in tank. Ripe pear, red apple, grapefruit, nectarine, and white peach lead, with hints of brioche, stone, and white pepper on a lively palate with a fine bead and a fresh, mineral finish. An affordable way into one of Germany's great Riesling estates.
