From one of Piedmont's most revered houses, the Roero Arneis is Bruno Giacosa's white counterpart to the Barolo and Barbaresco that built the estate's reputation in Neive, in the heart of the Langhe. The grapes are drawn from selected sites across the Roero villages of Vezza d'Alba, Monteu Roero, Santo Stefano Roero, Canale, and Montà d'Alba, and the wine stays entirely in stainless steel: a roughly month-long fermentation, no malolactic, then four months in tank and a month settling in bottle, a regimen built to keep Arneis fresh and unadorned. The result is greenish-tinged straw in color, with lemon, ripe peach and apricot, a note of pineapple, and a lift of white flowers, carried by a fresh, full-bodied palate with a stony undertow and a persistent finish. A benchmark Arneis from a producer that treats its white with the same precision as its great reds.
