António Lopes Ribeiro, the winemaker behind the certified-organic Casa de Mouraz, bottles Nina under his own label from roughly 60-year-old mixed vineyards in Portugal's Dão. It is a field blend in the oldest sense, around twenty varieties split about evenly between red and white grapes, trodden in lagar with chestnut blossoms scattered into the fruit, fermented on native yeasts with no added sulfites, then rested five months in stainless steel. Light on its feet, it offers red fruit and white flowers with a dried-blossom, mineral edge, silky tannins, and a clean, refreshing finish. An old vineyard habit that still works beautifully.
