The Sigaut family has made wine in Chambolle-Musigny since the early nineteenth century; Maurice Sigaut bottled the estate's first wines in the 1950s, Hervé took over in 1977, and Anne has led the cellar since 2004. Their 0.49 hectare of Les Fuées lies in three plots at the premier cru's northern end, directly against the grand cru Bonnes-Mares at 280 to 300 meters, on stony clay-limestone; the vines were planted in 1977 and 1996. Harvest is by hand, the fruit gently destemmed and moved by gravity, vatted 18 to 20 days with soft punch-downs, then aged 12 to 14 months in barrel with new oak held near a quarter. Ripe red fruits, violets, and a trace of undergrowth ride silky tannins to a long, mineral finish. The name is old Burgundian for the ground a man could hoe in a day; the wine repays the labor.
